JOB TITLE: Dental Officer-DE (OC)

SALARY RANGE: $100,957.00 to $225,000.00 / Per Year

SERIES & GRADE: GS-0680-11/12

MAJOR DUTIES:
•        Completes preliminary examinations on new dental service patients; review's patient's medical and dental history; examines the teeth and periodontium for evidence of plaque and periodontal disease and has the findings charted in the dental record.
•        Performs a full range of professional dental duties in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental disease or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures, including Operative Dentistry, Oral Diagnosis, Periodontics, Oral Surgery, Pedodontics, Endodontics, Fixed and/or Removable Prosthodontics, Orthodontics Oral Medicine, Geriatric Dentristry, and Dental Prevention.
•        Prepares treatment plans for patients including assessment of problem, type of oral hygiene care required, nutrition assessment and counseling, restorative and rehabilitative care possible with available resources.
•        Present lectures and demonstration in oral health care to various patient and community groups such as diabetics, hemodialysis patients, drug or alcohol dependent patients, and health boards. May instruct nurse, health educators, social workers, nursing assistants, community health representatives, other medical staff, and school teachers in proper techniques of oral hygiene to a variety of patients.
•        Provides technical and clinical guidance and direction to all Basic Clinical Dentist and Dental Assistants.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

•        The selected applicant will be subject to a background investigation.
•        Selectee will be subject to a pre-employment fingerprint check.
•        Selectee will be subject to a probationary period.
•        Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
•        U.S. Citizenship is required
•        More than one selection may be made from this announcement.
•        Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted Dental License.

Skills

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: Degree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.) from a school approved by the Council on Dental Education, American Dental Association (ADA); or other dental school, provided the education and knowledge acquired was substantially equivalent to that of graduates from an ADA-approved school.

Licensure: Applicants must be currently licensed to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.

Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-11: Applicants who meet the basic requirements qualify for GS-11.

GS-12: Two (2) years of professional dentistry experience and/or training; or superior academic ability defined as that demonstrated by an intern, who on the basis of an evaluation of all interns who have completed training in the same hospital or in the same kind of internship program over the past five (5) years, would fall into the upper half of the group.
Additional Requirements for Grades GS-12 and Above:
For purposes of this standard, the following terms are defined.
•Approved internship; approved residency-Training in a hospital dental internship or residency approved by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association.
