Overview

The primary role of the Back Office Supervisor is to provide training and guidance to Dental Assistants and support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience. Back Office Supervisor will train and develop all other dental assistants to perform a variety of patient care, laboratory, and administrative duties. This individual is responsible for maintaining appropriate and adequate general and specialty clinical supply in the dental practice, while simultaneously remaining fiscally responsible. The Back Office Supervisor must support the policies and goals of PDS, and thus participate in the growth and future of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Effective leadership, coaching, mentoring, hire, train, develop, evaluate and terminate dental assistants in order to ensure the effective operation of the office
  • Develop the dental assistant team through support of learning plans and expansion of individual knowledge with regards to clinical technology and skill sets
  • Identify, create and implement process improvements to maximize the experience for the patient as well as create an efficient, effective day for the dentist
  • Actively participate in the Perfect Patient Experience for your region by demonstrating how to keep patients focused on optimal treatment while attending to their individual concerns, and promoting the good qualities of your doctor
  • Provide gap analysis and identify solutions to increase efficiency and ideal workforce ratios. Develop and implement a plan, including development of staff, to provide for efficient operations during Dental Assistant absences
  • Manage and approve time-off requests for the Dental Assistants in their office by analyzing business needs and/or seasonal trends. Primary point of contact for the Assistants to call due to any deviations from their assigned schedules
  • Partner with regional team and office management to determine and set office dates and times, and confirm Dental Assistant team assignments for the offices
  • Proactively communicate with the Specialists to determine any changes of staffing in their scheduled days due to vacations or time-off and adjust the travelling Dental Assistants schedule to mitigate any gaps in coverage. Ensure office and regional management is always aware of risk in inadequate coverage
  • Perform duties in accordance with the applicable state's Dental allowable functions
  • Manage infection control, sterilization and disinfection processes for all products, equipment, and patient rooms in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines
  • Maintain a clean and sterile workplace creating an atmosphere where your patients feel comfortable assist the doctors
  • Maintain appropriate and adequate general and specialty clinical supply for all assigned dental practices; while simultaneously remain fiscally responsible by adhering to the established budget
  • Educate team on basic maintenance, as appropriate and ensure maintenance procedures are performed in a timely manner. For broken equipment, follow maintenance and repair guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned by Management

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to high school diploma or general education degree (GED), and specified training courses as mandated by state for certification, licensure, or registration required
  • As mandated by applicable state (e.g. coronal polish, x-ray exposure, s, pit and fissure sealant application, etc)
  • Associate degree or one-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
