Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a dynamic, growth-oriented individual to lead programs and initiatives in support of our shared values. The College of Dentistry aspires to be an organization that centers equity, antiracism and social justice in all its structures, practices and activities. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Dentistry, the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer will lead and facilitate organizational efforts to create a more equitable workplace, build a more inclusive organizational culture and recruit and retain a workforce that reflects the increasing diversity of Ohio. As a member of the College of Dentistry’s senior leadership team, the Assistant Dean joins a team dedicated to developing and modeling shared leadership, process-oriented communications, and participatory decision making. The Assistant Dean will be supported as a full partner in leadership, with resources and organizational effort allocated as programming is developed.

Schedule:

M-F, 7:30-4:30, weekends and evenings as needed.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and facilitates diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts that advance College of Dentistry’s values, vision and mission with emphasis on sustained action and cultural transformation
  • Serves as a member of the College of Dentistry’s senior leadership and contributes to organizational planning, evaluation, and resource allocation decisions
  • Partners with the Office of Human Resources and the Office of Academic Affairs to advance the recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce and an inclusive, equitable work environment for all College of Dentistry employees
  • Undertake a broad range of strategic and tactical activities related to the identification, development, and execution of diversity and inclusion initiatives for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Develops learning initiatives and trainings, and facilitates organizational dialogs to advance a more inclusive, equitable workplace culture
  • Participates and influences College of Dentistry committees to coordinate DEI initiatives across the organization and promote an inclusive, equitable service experience for College of Dentistry faculty and staff
  • Partners with key university stakeholders, including the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, to further university-level DEI goals
  • Assume division didactic and clinical teaching responsibilities related to DEI curricula goals as appropriate
  • Represents the College of Dentistry at national and regional meetings and forums as appropriate

Staff Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in a related field of study and/or a professional degree
  • 3-5 years of professional experience working with equity, diversity, and inclusion programming and initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience in strategy development and program planning, implementation and assessment
  • Ability to develop and articulate programs, practices and processes that connect equity, diversity, and inclusion with organizational culture and success
  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of difference, privilege, and power
  • Demonstrated awareness of the needs of, and challenges faced by, underrepresented populations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DEI research and literatures
  • Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and conduct effective training
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully plan, manage, and complete projects

Faculty Desired Qualifications:

  • DDS/DMD, DPH, EdD, and/or PhD degree.
  • Certified Diversity Professional (CDP); Certified Diversity Executive (CDE); Cornell Certified Diversity Professional (CCDP) or other related certification
  • Experience in organizational development and change management
  • Familiarity with higher education environment

This is a full-time, regular, senior administrative and professional position.

Salary

$125,000 to $155,000; annual salary negotiable.
