JOB OBJECTIVE

Under the general direction of the Dental Director, the Staff Dentist (Dentist) is responsible for providing clinical dental services and preventive dental care in a community health center setting. In addition, the Dentist may perform other duties as directed by the Dental Director, within the requirements of contractual agreements with the funding sources and in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors of Clinicas del Camino Real, Inc. The Dentist interacts with a multi-cultural population of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, levels of education and ages.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Dentist is required to perform the following duties:

  • Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines. Adheres to the highest standard of dental practices, ethics and professionalism at all times. Assists the Dental Director in practices and makes recommendations. Provides assessment and management by risk assessment (CAMBRA) for children and adults. Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. Dentist shall complete referrals, data collection, instruments, and other records or paper work as shall be required from time to time by the corporation. Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention. Maintains an affiliation with the professional groups, dental associations and dental organizations as per policies and procedures established by Clinicas, in all meetings of these associations and organizations. Must become familiar with Federal and State rules and regulations in practicing in a community health center. Serves on the dental staff and other center committees as assigned. Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of community health center staff as requested. Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education to the community as requested.

  • Assists in the coordination and integration of the corporation’s dental programs and services with other corporate programs and services for the welfare of the corporation’s patients. Participates in the Dental department’s QA meetings/Staff meetings and Peer Review feedback committee. Responsible for personal full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality. Performs all functions in full compliance with the center’s and the Dental Department Exposure Control Plan including but not limited to the use of Personal Protective Equipment and Universal Precautions. As directed by the Dental Director, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse patient groups. Consistently fulfills quality and production goals set by the Dental Director. May supervise residents. May assist patients with mental illness, substance abuse problems and or/emotional disturbance. Performs other duties as assigned including participation in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current California Dental License, NPI number and DEA registrations. Current CPR (BLS) certifications.  Completion of an accredited general practice residency program is preferred.  Two plus years of community clinic experience preferred. Requires a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings. Must have an interest in the design of and in evaluating the efficiency of dental programs in the community health care setting. Authoritative knowledge of the practice and techniques of dentistry as general practitioner in a community health center is highly desirable.

Proficient computer skills and experience with electronic dental records software.
