The New Jersey Dental Association (NJDA) is the premier dental association in New Jersey and has nearly 4,200 members representing approximately 50% of the State’s licensed Dentists. As part of the Tripartite of organized dentistry partnering with the American Dental Association (ADA), the Association works with 12 individual Component Societies throughout the State. The Association functions as a sounding board for its members, a source for industry and market information, and as a coordinating and decision-making body for dealing with industry issues.

Since its founding, NJDA represents dental professionals in legislative affairs while advancing the profession to set the highest ethical standards for practice. NJDA helps develop, update and maintain dental practice standards and works closely with the ADA and regulatory agencies to advocate policies that affect the livelihood of the dental profession and the health of the patients and the public who are served by its Dentist members. The NJDA lobbies public policymakers fighting for issues that matter to Dentists and the patients they serve.

The NJDA Board of Trustees is currently comprised of 21 professional and committed volunteer Dentist members of the Society. Leadership also includes 20 Council and Committee Chairs and an ADA Trustee representing NJDA (ADA Fourth  District Trustee) at the national level. The Chief Executive Officer oversees a staff of approximately nine full-time employees and an operating budget of approximately $2 million.

The next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will have the opportunity to work with a dedicated, professional and passionate Board to convene stakeholders around the state.  This new leader will work with engaged members locally and statewide to ensure that the NJDA remains sustainable and continues to expand its presence.  The CEO will facilitate efforts to transition and build the organizational capacity, resources (inclusive of diversified revenue streams), non-dues income and structure that meets the current and future needs of the Association.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the CEO is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the organization and its affiliated entities. He/She/They will ensure the implementation of the mission and vision, the strategic plan and the operational policies pursuant to the Bylaws and as approved by the Board of Trustees and the NJDA House of Delegates.

We seek a proven executive-level leader whose career in a similar-sized state or national association, or comparable business enterprise, has been noted by their ability to be an agent of change. She/He/They will have a demonstrated ability to chart a path forward with exceptional communication skills and servant leadership style. This person must exhibit success in collaborating with and convening diverse stakeholders sharing common interests and values so that the day-to-day operations and strategic goals of the organization are pursued in a collegial, transparent and highly participatory manner.  The successful candidate will exhibit passion and energy, must be politically astute, and possess a strategic vision. This person will need to have tangible experience in helping to guide organizations into a more meaningful, efficient and cohesive structure. Understanding and knowledge of the healthcare/dental profession is highly valued but not mandatory.

An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required.  An advanced degree is preferred.  Demonstration of continuing professional education, accreditation in a professional field and/or board leadership at a local, state or national professional or trade association would be highly desirable (a CAE designation is highly valued).

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is between $200,000 and $250,000 and will be commensurable with experience. NJDA offers a comprehensive benefits package, including but not limited to 12 paid holidays, vacation, group health and dental, a pension with a  3% match as well as a 401K plan. NJDA pays up to $9,200 towards the premium per year for an employee who elects health coverage.

NJDA is an equal opportunity employer. NJDA is committed to the principle and policy of equal employment opportunity. NJDA will not discriminate against employees or applicants for employment on any legally recognized basis including, but not limited to, veteran status, military status, race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, marital status, creed, national origin, genetic predisposition, physical or mental disability, age, sexual orientation or any other protected class recognized by federal, New Jersey State or local law.
