Job Details
Dental Access Carolina is a mobile clinic that serves the greater Columbia area and surrounding school districts from Head Start age to high school kids. The position is 5 days per week, Mon – Fri. The mobile clinic consists of two chairs. One for hygiene and one for restorative.
The team (patient advocate, assistant, hygienist and doctor) meet at the particular school just after the bell rings to start classes (usually around 7:30-8:00am depending on the school). It takes about 20-30minutes to set-up and the target is to be ready 20minutes after the first bell has rung. The day ends approximately 20min prior to the ending bell for the day. The current schedule is “school based”. When school is not in session the mobile clinic does not operate.

Dental Access Carolina was founded by Dr. John Reese in January of 2001 to provide comprehensive care to students in York County, South Carolina. He approached the SC Dental Association, the SC Board of Dentistry, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Health and Environmental Control, and the Department of Social Services, along with school district representatives to assess the students' needs and develop the idea for a mobile practice.
After receiving positive feedback, he designed and built a mobile dental van to fit the specific needs of the program. Seeing immediate success and an immense need, Dr. Reese sold his brick and mortar practice in September 2001 to concentrate on Dental Access Carolina full time.
In the nearly two decades since he first started, Dr. Reese expanded Dental Access Carolina's services into school districts throughout South Carolina, with dental teams practicing in clinics designed by him and custom built to the needs of a mobile practice.
