Position Summary Information

 

Summary

Reporting to the Interim Dean for the College of Dentistry, the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs is responsible for the Office of Clinical Affairs, including oversight of clinical operations and patient care within the on-site NEOMED Dental Clinic; fostering relationships with community-based clinical partner sites; ensuring faculty calibration for both on-site and partner site faculty; and evaluation of clinical partner sites with respect to ongoing suitability to serve as sites for the COD’s clinical education program.

Principal Functional Responsibilities

Administration: Provides leadership for and oversight of the NEOMED Dental Clinic. Ensure calibration of faculty at the NEOMED Dental Clinic and at community-based partner sites. Maintains a strong supportive relationship with partner sites as well as on-campus administrators, faculty, staff and students to ensure compliance with accreditation standards. In addition, oversee the recruitment of additional partner sites. Provide oversight in the evaluation of the quality of care delivered in the NEOMED Dental Clinic. Provide ongoing evaluation of clinical partner sites with respect to suitability to serve as sites for the COD’s clinical education program. During the development of the new College of Dentistry, the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs will work closely with the Dean and Associate Dean for Education and Academic Affairs to meet Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) requirements with respect to clinical education and clinical operations in order to achieve initial accreditation from CODA.

Teaching: Directing and supporting clinical courses, including clinical instruction and assessment, in the predoctoral dentistry curricula.

Other: Assist in achieving CODA accreditation for the predoctoral program and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Candidate must possess a D.D.S. or D.M.D. or equivalent. Must be eligible for faculty appointment. The candidate must also be eligible for licensure as well as a regular or limited teaching license by the Ohio State Dental Board.

Experience

  • Five (5) years’ experience in dental education at the institutional level, working in implementation, evaluation and monitoring of a clinical educational program leading to a dental degree.
  • Candidates should possess comprehensive clinical skills. The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of issues in dental education and specifically clinical oral health matters.
  • Candidate should possess an in-depth understanding and knowledge of accreditation of dental programs, particularly the requirements and expectations of CODA.
  • Candidate should be eligible for the rank of Associate or Full Professor at NEOMED. We seek candidates with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the College of Dentistry and across NEOMED, and to champion education within a health sciences university as well as among a wide range of external constituencies.
  • Must be current regarding Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and be able to provide proof of certification.
