Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
Regional Oral and Maxillofacial Service (OMS), part of Surgical Services wishes to appoint Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and invites suitably qualified candidates to apply.
Oral and Maxillofacial Service (OMS) provide hospital-based, tertiary-level specialist services to 1.6 million people domiciled with the Metro Auckland and Northland District Health Boards of New Zealand.
In this role you would provide regional acute, elective and outpatient specialist OMS services whilst working within a dedicated team. The acute work is heavily weighted towards facial trauma and odontogenic infections. Elective work includes dento-alveolar, TMJ, orthognathic and benign pathology. Sub-specialty training and experience in oncological resection and reconstruction would be an advantage.
The OMS service works closely with the Hospital and Specialist Dentistry service and their sub-specialities including oral medicine, restorative prosthodontics, orthodontists and paediatric dentistry. The successful candidate will share after hours and weekend on-call work – on a roster basis, for the 24/7 service.
The current OMS team consists of 7 OMS surgeons, 3 dual-qualified College trainee registrars, 1 dual-qualified non-training registrar, 1 dental registrar, 1 dental house officer and 1 medical house officer. Auckland is a training centre in OMS surgery, accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS). You would have the opportunity to participate in registrar training.
This is a permanent position, and we would consider part time (minimum 2 weekdays per week) which is primarily based at Middlemore Hospital with some sessions at Greenlane Clinical Centre and Auckland City Hospital. Several of our incumbent OMS surgeons work part time in private practice. There are opportunities, in Auckland for the successful candidate to do likewise.
