Job Description
The department chair and program director is responsible for the Idaho Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency (IAGD).
The program mission statement reads: The Idaho Advanced General Dentistry Program's mission is to provide an outstanding educational environment where dental residents advance their knowledge and experience over that obtained in the pre-doctoral curriculum and develop a sense of personal responsibility for continued learning and constantly advancing clinical skills while providing caring, competent services to their patients.
The department chair and program director is expected to participate in, appoint and oversee all operational aspects of the program.
Key Responsibilities:
• Responsible for assuring that the educational components of the program will enable the dental residents to achieve the competencies and proficiencies outlined for successful completion of the program.
• Duties including, but not limited to:
• Development of clinical rotations, scheduling and experiences;
• Designing and integrating both local didactic and distance learning components;
• Securing, supporting and maintaining outside rotations which enhance the didactic or clinical aspects of the program;
• Develop a curriculum plan that allows for an appropriate interface between the educational and clinical experiences;
• Designing and implementing an outcomes assessment process that serves as both a measure of the program's success and as a mechanism for constantly improving the program;
• Teach didactic courses as needed and participate at least 20% time in the clinical teaching of the dental residents.
• Expected to participate in, oversee and develop mechanisms that promote the efficient and effective operation of the Pocatello Family Dentistry Clinic and ISU Family Dentistry in Meridian including:
• Day to day operational effectiveness with departmental and clinic budgetary responsibility and oversight;
• Fulfilling a strong public service mission;
• Fulfilling a strong connection to the dental community in order to recruit and retain high quality faculty;
• Recruiting at dental schools to ensure we are matriculating the most talented and prepared residents;
• Overall accountability partner with each clinic;
• Supervisor for the employees, residents and faculty of the residency program.
• Will retain the definitive authority and responsibility for site activities, but will be obliged and benefited by a close working relationship with the Site Directors.
• Serves as a liaison with the local and state dental society, State Boards of Dentistry and Education, professional organizations, civic groups and others who interact with the residency program.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining a program that is accredited by the American Dental Association Commission of Dental Accreditation and will be responsible for completing the CODA Self-study and any progress reports as required by CODA.
• The director is expected to remain active as a faculty member.
• This position requires travel at least monthly to the Meridian/Pocatello sites to assure continuity between the two sites per CODA standards.
Minimum Qualifications
• Earned DDS or DMD degree followed by a completion of an AEGD or GPR dental program with a current license and eligible for licensure in the State of Idaho.
• A minimum of 5 (five) years of experience of Clinical practice in a dental setting.
• Ability to travel to sister site monthly to assure program consistency in both residency locations.
• Experience with budget planning and management.
• Ability to develop relationships and work cooperatively with local dentists and dental schools.
• Ability to effectively develop curriculum for the residents.
• Commitment to building necessary partnerships to increase excellence in the residency program.
• Communication, trust, transparency.
Preferred Qualifications
• Successful experience in strategic planning that fosters collaborative work with faculty to maintain and develop current, evidence based, practices in dentistry and develop strategies to achieve this in the residency program.
• Possess outstanding creative, forward thinking skills, the ability to make informed decisions, and effectively communicate the rationale for decisions.
• Experience with accreditation agencies.
• A commitment to professional, community service based residency program with the expectation of high quality dentistry to be taught to and performed by dental residents.
• Ability to practice dentistry in a faculty based practice on-site.
• Certified in IV Sedation
