Northern Arizona University's Department of Dental Hygiene in the College of Health and Human Services is hiring one Assistant Clinical Professor, Dental Hygiene. The candidate will instruct diverse dental hygiene students in the classroom, clinic, and/or online using distance learning technology. The faculty member's scholarship, teaching, and service responsibilities will be determined based on the faculty member's areas of dental hygiene expertise, special interest, and Department of Dental Hygiene needs.

The College of Health and Human Services is Northern Arizona's hub for inclusive and equitable health and wellness education. With programs available in Flagstaff, online, and at 20+ statewide sites, we prepare high-quality professionals to lend a healing hand. The Dental Hygiene Department houses an ADA-CODA accredited Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science program offered in person as well as an online degree completion program.

This position is located in Flagstaff, Arizona on the Flagstaff Mountain campus. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track faculty position, starting Fall 2025 (August 2025).

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Teaching didactic and/or online courses

Teaching in a clinical setting

Responsibilities Include:

Teach undergraduate dental hygiene courses

Supervise and provide hands-on training in clinic

Perform service to the department/college/university (ie. committees, presentations, representation, etc.)

Attend and participate in departmental and college events

Minimum Qualifications

Dental Hygiene license, and/or the ability to obtain dental hygiene licensure in AZ.

Master's degree in Dental Hygiene, Public Health, or directly related field.

One year of Dental Hygiene and/or public health teaching experience.

Three years of full-time (32+ hours/week) clinical and/or public health dental hygiene experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Learning Management System (LMS).

Five years of Dental Hygiene teaching experience in a university setting.

Five or more years of clinical dental hygiene experience.

Experience as clinical director or coordinator in a dental hygiene program.

Evidence of a record of scholarly activity or other creative endeavors related to dental hygiene.

Online teaching and course design experience.

Public health experience.

Experience in curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of learning management system.

Knowledge of instructional design, effective pedagogy, and innovative learning methodologies.

Knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning in traditional and hybrid classroom environments.

Knowledge of online course development and delivery.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Communicates effectively.

Develops and maintains good working relationships.

Facilitates learning in multiple modalities.

Teaches a wide variety of courses.

Works in a collaborative environment with faculty, staff, and students.

Ability to work effectively with people of culturally diverse backgrounds.
