Assistant/Associate Dean for Research

The University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time tenured faculty for the position of Assistant/Associate Dean for Research.  The mission of the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry is to educate dentists for Iowa and beyond through excellence in patient care, education, and research. Our vision is to be an invaluable resource to Iowa and to influence the direction of dentistry in this country and around the world. Our College of Dentistry has had a tradition of excellence since 1882.

For more than 125 years, the College of Dentistry has been an integral part of The University of Iowa and a resource to the state of Iowa. The great majority of Iowa dentists are alumni of the College of Dentistry. The strength of our relationships with the university, the state, the profession, and with academic colleagues, alumni, practitioners, and industry, has enabled us to become one of the top dental schools in the United States. Our connections involving graduate education and research extend well beyond national boundaries and give the College of Dentistry a worldwide reputation.

As a part of a level-R1 research University, our research collaborations involve most colleges at The University of Iowa, other institutions in the U.S. and abroad, and major oral health care companies. This scholarly environment nurtures the largest dental student research program in the nation and supports a number of federally funded interdisciplinary research centers involving faculty from departments across the campus. Remaining current in a world of increasingly complex patient care needs and constantly evolving technology presents a continuing challenge for future dental prac-
titioners. By linking research with clinical care and education, the College of Dentistry is preparing dentistry for the future.

Major responsibilities of this position include providing leadership for the collegiate research programs, by: providing research and scholarly leadership for the College; participating actively as part of the Dean’s administrative team, providing leadership, oversight, prioritization, and management of collegiate research programs; promoting the growth of basic science, population-based, clinical and translational oral health research programs at our institution; interacting with the University communities and external enterprises to promote research, education and learning; liaising with the health science colleges to promote interdepartmental research and curricular programs; ensuring the College remains current in research trends and translational applications to education and clinical programs at
the predoctoral, postdoctoral and graduate levels; collaborating with the administrative team relative to providing direction and integration of the student research programs with the curriculum; liaising with the Dean for Faculty concerning faculty development; working closely with faculty, staff, and students to support the collegiate research mission and vision; and cultivating an environment of inclusion and respect for students, faculty and staff within the college.

effectively in a diverse environment. Desirable:  demonstrated ability to obtain funding from diverse sponsors including private and/or public sectors.  Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
