New York University College of Dentistry, one of the most dynamic and robust dental educational and research institutions of higher education in the world, seeks a full-time faculty member to serve as Chairperson of the Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.  The Chair provides the overall vision, leadership, and supervision and is accountable to fulfill the educational, research, clinical, and service missions of the Department. The Chair will have oversight of the Department’s pre-doctoral program (both didactically and clinically), the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics, and the Continuing Education Program for International Dentists in Implant Dentistry.  Additionally, the Chair will also have responsibility for the overall administration of the Department and will work collaboratively with the College leadership to expand and improve services to best meet our community’s dental health needs.

The specific responsibilities of the Chairperson of the Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry include, but are not limited to direct oversight for all educational (didactic and clinical). Additionally, the Chair is responsible for the day-to-day operations, administrative and research activities of the Department, mentoring pre- and post-doctoral students, mentoring faculty for promotion and tenure, enhancing the Department’s research portfolio, supporting the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics and fostering relationships with its alumni, and representing the Department at internal and external meetings.

Candidates must possess a DDS/DMD degree and be eligible for unrestricted licensure in the State of New York. Candidates must be Board Certified by the American Board of Periodontology.  The successful candidate will be recognized as an expert clinician and will have a documented history as an accomplished educator, and as a successful and well-respected leader with strong administrative and organizational skills. Demonstrated evidence of funded research, publications and presentations at the national and/or international levels are highly desirable.  Candidates should be able to articulate a vision for the future of the Department, develop clear strategies, and demonstrate the necessary expertise to ensure the success thereof.  For faculty appointment, candidates must demonstrate a record of research, scholarly work, service, and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various education, research, and service communities. Must demonstrate a commitment to and a track record of fostering diversity, inclusion, and equity. A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential.
