Department Head (Academic Administrator)

The Pennsylvania State University seeks nominations and applications for the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Nutritional Sciences. Nutrition has been a part of the curriculum at Penn State for over 100 years and, based on NRC rankings and Elsevier SciVal bibliometrics, is one of the premier programs in nutritional sciences in the nation. Programmatic activities span the spectrum from basic science to application in clinical, community, and global settings.

Candidate Description

Penn State seeks candidates with the vision, energy and commitment to lead the department, and enhance and extend its prominence. The head will have administrative responsibility for all operational, fiscal and procedural actions associated with the department and will represent the department on the Executive Committee of the College of Health and Human Development (HHD). The department head will be a leader who promotes excellence in the full range of missions that are embodied in a comprehensive, land-grant, and research-intensive university and values. The head will be committed to excellence in promoting and extending research and scholarship, undergraduate and graduate education, recruiting and mentoring a diverse faculty, and building relationships with industry, government, alumni, donors, and an array of campus and community partners and encourages the diversity of the nutritional sciences program. Candidates should have an earned doctorate, a successful record of extramurally funded research, demonstrated experience in teaching, and must be qualified for appointment at the rank of professor. Demonstrated leadership and management skills are a prerequisite with some past experience in budget management, strategic planning, and developing programming to foster an inclusive environment is preferred. Familiarity with the requirements of an accredited educational program in dietetics is preferred.
