Tufts University: Tufts School of Dental Medicine: Department of Periodontology

Tufts University School of Dental Medicine seeks candidates for the position of Chair in the Department of Periodontology, at the Associate Professor or Professor level. The Department includes the graduate program in periodontology and is responsible for the didactic, preclinical and clinical training for the DMD program.

The Chair is expected to demonstrate administrative and leadership experience, including supervision of faculty and staff, performance management, goal setting, financial planning, as well as curriculum development. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate a vision for innovative approaches to pre-doctoral dental education and have highly developed academic leadership skills, outstanding academic credentials and have established a significant professional reputation.

The Chair will be responsible for development, supervision and overall leadership to the Department of Periodontology, as well as establishing collaboration across TUSDM departments.  In addition, the Chair will have management responsibilities in the following areas: curriculum development for both the pre-doctoral and postgraduate programs, integration of technology into the classroom and the clinics, enhancing the clinical operation, mentoring of students and junior faculty, scholarly activities and research, public health and community outreach. The Chair will develop and maintain a research portfolio that is consistent with the School’s and the University’s strategic plans. The Chair is expected to mentor students, participate in faculty development programs, serve on committees, and accept other assignments from time to time at the request of the Dean.

Qualifications

Requirements include a DDS/DMD degree or equivalent and an advanced education certificate in periodontology from an ADA-accredited institution. Board certification by the American Board of Periodontology is preferred. Research training (M.S. and/or Ph.D.) preferred.  Chair must be eligible for licensure in Massachusetts. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
